Pattonville All-Staff Return

A Letter from the Superintendent

Dear Pattonville staff,

Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you all had a great summer and are excited to start a new school year making a positive difference in the lives of our students, families and community. Our staff members' quality and commitment make Pattonville stand out. Many of you have dedicated years to our district, and your experience and devotion are deeply valued. At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome new staff members who are joining the Pattonville team. Your fresh perspectives and enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset to our district.

As a Pattonville staff member, you play a crucial and unique role in the district’s mission, "That All Will Learn.” Whether your work is in a classroom, school or throughout the district, your passion, expertise and tireless efforts are the bedrock of our students’ success.

Together, we concluded the last school year by graduating 412 students in the Class of 2024, with 85% planning to continue their education. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the collective hard work and dedication of the Pattonville staff. As we celebrate and recognize this success, let us now focus on guiding the next group of students at every level — from early childhood to high school — to an outstanding future.

As we kick off the 2024-2025 school year, I am excited to share some updates. Measurable progress has been made in the first year of our five-year Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). Some of that work includes defining the Pattonville Portrait of a Graduate and illustrating the six key elements of a Pattonville graduate. This illustration will help guide our work, starting when students enter on their first day  through graduation.

All Pattonville students continue to engage with personalized learning supported by the development of learner profiles. This focus impacts elementary and middle school students continuing to progress in reading and mathematics as measured by STAR assessment data. Middle school students are now developing and building their Individual Career and Academic Pathways (ICAPs), which is leading to more high school students participating in career pathways and extended learning opportunities (ELOs) and earning Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs). This is just a small snapshot of the work that is already in place and will continue during the next four years and beyond.

Additionally, facility improvements are underway across the district due to our taxpayers support in April 2022 of the Prop S no-tax-rate-increase bond issue. We eagerly anticipate the completion of new construction projects at Bridgeway, Parkwood and Willow Brook elementary schools and Holman Middle School. These improvements, including the enhancements to our family and consumer science (FACS) rooms and science labs at Pattonville High School that took place this summer and will be finalized next summer, represent a significant investment in the future of our students and their learning environments. As we enter Phase 2 of the bond issue construction work, exciting improvements will occur at the Pattonville Early Childhood Center, Drummond and Rose Acres elementary schools, and Pattonville Heights Middle School. These efforts will further ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards and provide our students with the best possible educational experiences.

As we enter this new school year, I have confidence that it will be a year of accomplishments, growth and countless moments of pride. Our students are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of professionals guiding them on their educational journey. Thank you for your unwavering determination, passion and hard work. I wish you a successful, rewarding and memorable year ahead.

Warm regards,

Dr. Barry Nelson

Superintendent
