Pattonville All-Staff Return
A Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Pattonville staff,
As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, I want to take a moment to recognize the essential role each of you plays in bringing our mission, That All Will Learn, to life. No matter your role in Pattonville, your contributions shape the experiences of our students, their families and one another. You are the heart of Pattonville.
Studies consistently show that when people feel supported by those they work with and for, engagement and performance increase. A great student experience begins with a great employee experience, and both are influenced by the culture we build together. When we invest in people, we see the results. Not just in morale, but in how each of us, and particularly our students, learn and grow. When staff members feel encouraged, equipped and valued, it enables high-quality work across every part of the district. No matter your title, department or building, your work matters.
This year, I invite all of us to consider how we can bring the spirit of unreasonable hospitality into our daily routines. In his book “Unreasonable Hospitality,” Will Guidara defines this idea not as extravagance, but as attentiveness, making people feel seen and cared for through small, intentional acts. In our context, that could mean lending a hand to a colleague, offering words of encouragement at the right moment or noticing what a student or family needs and responding with care.
These moments of connection matter. They build trust, and that trust is the foundation of a thriving school community. When our students walk into buildings where they feel welcome, safe and supported, they are more likely to engage, take risks and grow. When families feel informed and respected, they become true partners in the learning process. And when all of us — staff, students and families — feel seen, heard and valued, we become more engaged and our collective work is stronger and more impactful.
Academic achievement does not happen in isolation. It is the outcome of intentional systems and human-centered practices. Our ability to meet the diverse needs of every learner depends on our shared commitment to both excellence and empathy. When students are academically challenged and emotionally supported, they are more likely to take risks, persist through difficulties and grow. By showing consistency, care and purpose, we can create the conditions where every learner — and every team member — has the opportunity to thrive.
Thank you for the work you do, the care you give and the impact you make. Let’s make this another outstanding year in Pattonville.
Warmly,
Dr. Barry Nelson
Superintendent
