Students, staff recognized at the Jan. 13 board meeting

Each month during the school year, the Pattonville Board of Education honors students, staff and volunteers who have gained recognition outside of the district or who’ve made a special contribution to Pattonville. Learn more about students and staff who were recognized this month.

 

Holman Middle School

Holman orchestra students were selected to participate in honor orchestras. Three students were selected to the Sixth Grade All-Suburban Honor Orchestra. They were Mesa Baczynski for violin, Brooklyn Barr for bass and Jayla Powell for cello. Additionally, two eighth graders were selected to the 7th/8th Grade St. Louis Suburban Orchestra. They were Emanuel Khalil Turja Elvira for viola and Caleb Sosman as an alternate for violin. The Holman orchestra is directed by Irena Goren-Scheer.

Three eighth graders from Pattonville Heights Middle School were selected to the All-Suburban Honor Band. They were Eli Bennight for baritone saxophone, William Haselbauer for bass clarinet and Vincent Luebbers for French horn. The Pattonville Heights band is directed by Abby Hall and Liz Pace.

Pattonville High School students were selected to the All-Suburban Concert and Jazz honor bands and qualified to audition for the All-State Band. Ann Russell was selected to the All-State Band as an honorable mention for flute. Students selected to the All-Suburban Concert Band were Zoe Click for bassoon, Olivia Hurd for alto saxophone and Nathan Weiss for contra bass clarinet. Selected as alternates were Chase Cheatham for euphonium, Colin Darrah for tenor saxophone, Russell for flute and piccolo and Julio Torres for French horn. Students selected to the All-Suburban Jazz Band as alternates were Taylor Flores for tenor saxophone, Dylan Jamison for drum set and Weiss for baritone saxophone. The high school band is directed by Jacob Bubb, Laura Livesay and Anna White.

Pattonville High School choir students were selected to the All-District Mixed and Treble honor choirs. Four students were named to and nine students qualified to audition for the All-State Choir. Students named to the All-State Choir were Nicholas Benbow, Zoe Click, Nicholas Shao, Kaylee Dyer as an alternate and Lydia Greenwalt Hamil as an honorable mention.

Students who qualified for an All-State audition after being selected to the All-District Mixed Honor Choir were Christi Dyer, Elijah McCollum, Spencer Mitchell and Eleanor VanEngelen. Students selected to the All-District Mixed Honor Choir were Benbow, Mason Biship, Rihanna Carter, Click, Dyer, Greenwalt Hamil, Jeremiah Lopez Monteverde, Ian Macdonald, Izabelle Munguia Smith, Tim Nelson, Omolola Ogunmola, Shao, Joana Tena Gaona and Rosemary VanEngelen.

Students selected to the All-District Treble Honor Choir were Valentina Alatorre Quintero, Roby Bozeman Nettles, Riyan Bryant, Rosealyn Corson, MJ Ellis, Emily Erickson-Karanja, Josselina Esquivel, Ava Flores, Maya Frye, Lily-Elizabeth Gamino-Pinon, Sofia Hailstone, Esme Hurlbut, Ava Johnson, Madison Jurilla, Skylar Kuzuf, Mikayla Meekie, MacKenzie Miller, Olivia Monroe, Whitney Murray, Riley Orach, Layla Stuart and Carina Tshitenge.

The high school choir is directed by Melynda Lamb and Aaron Zart.

Orchestra

Five high school students were selected to the All-Suburban Orchestra. They were: Clare Derhake andSamuel Gunawan for violin; Drake Kelly and William Truong for viola; and Melaina Prentice for bass. The high school orchestra is directed by Paul Rueschhoff, who was selected to receive the 2026 Missouri Music Educators Association David B. Goodwin Outstanding Music Educator Award. Nominees for this award were submitted from across the state and voted on by the organization’s vice presidents. Honorees represent a model of teaching, learning and professional excellence. Paul will be recognized for this honor on Jan. 29 at the association’s 88th Annual In-Service Workshop/Conference, prior to the Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra concert.

The Pattonville High School football team advanced to the semifinal game of the Class 6 State Tournament on Nov. 29, after being named state quarterfinal champions at the game on Nov. 22 against Fort Zumwalt West High School. They won the District 3 Championship on Nov. 15 against Ritenour High School after winning the district semifinal game against Hazelwood West High School on Nov. 7. This is Pattonville’s sixth appearance at the state semifinals in program history, with the last appearance in 2017. Additionally, players were named to all-state, all-metro, all-district and all-conference teams.

Jerrail West was named an all-state first team wide receiver and Evan Bryant was named all-state third team for offensive line.

West was also named an all-metro first team wide receiver. Students named all-metro honorable mention were Trevor Beckermann as a quarterback, Bryant as an offensive lineman and Kaileb Rickmon as a defensive end.

Students named all-district first team were Beckermann as a quarterback, Bryant as an offensive lineman, Andre Jefferson Jr. as a linebacker, Chase Love as an offensive lineman, Rickmon as a defensive end and West as a wide receiver. Students named all-district second team were Tyrice Coleman as a defensive back, Terrell Lyles as a linebacker and wide receiver, Peyton Marmon as an offensive lineman, Larry Martin as a running back and Jurnie Thompson as a defensive back.

Students named all-conference first team were Bryant as an offensive lineman, Jefferson Jr. as a linebacker, Rickmon as a defensive end and West as a wide receiver. Named all-conference second team were: Beckermann as a quarterback, Love as an offensive lineman, Lyles as a linebacker, Martin as a running back, Kingston Robinson as a wide receiver and Thompson as a defensive back. Named all-conference honorable mention were: Coleman as a defensive back, Joshua Colvin as a defensive back, Tahj Dillon as a defensive lineman, Benjamin Heimsoth as a tight end, Lyles as a wide receiver, Laurendez Hill as a defensive end, Marmon as an offensive lineman, Daniel Mbugua as an offensive lineman, Ryan Monroe as a linebacker, Joshua Schindler as a defensive lineman and Kaleb Thomas as an offensive lineman. Students named academic all-conference were Jory Cunningham, Heimsoth, Marcus Hughes Love, Mbugua and Miles Smith. Additionally, Drew Killian was selected to receive the all-conference sportsmanship award.

Beckermann set a new school record for most passing yards in a season at 3,116 yards. West is the first player in Pattonville history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, setting the school record at 1,528 receiving yards.

The varsity football team was coached by Steve Smith with the assistance of Kent Booth Jr., Christian Brinser, Antonio Bryant, Kevin Clark, Travis Harris, Scott Hauser, Chris Poindexter, Jesse Robinson Jr., Charles Shelton IV and Chaun Tate.

Districtwide

National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT)

Two teachers from Pattonville earned certification as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). NBCT is considered the highest credential in the teaching profession and is designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. Certification is awarded by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and teachers can keep their certification active by completing a Maintenance of Certification every five years. Parkwood Elementary School fourth grade teacher Audrey Masek earned Generalist/Middle Childhood certification. Holman Middle School reading teacher Trina Cornell earned Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood certification.
