Students, staff recognized at the Feb. 10 board meeting

Each month during the school year, the Pattonville Board of Education honors students, staff and volunteers who have gained recognition outside of the district or who’ve made a special contribution to Pattonville. Learn more about students and staff who were recognized this month.

St. Louis Writers Guild

Students from Rose Acres Elementary School were selected to have their short stories published in the St. Louis Writers Guild: Young Writers Awards Collection anthology. In this annual contest, student authors from fourth through 12th grade submit their writing to be included in an anthology that is available for purchase on Amazon. These students were invited to an awards ceremony and story-reading celebration on Jan. 10. Fifth grader Norah Glaenzer had a short story selected for publication. She is taught by Nicole Youngquist. Four students from PEGS also had their short stories selected for publication: Fifth grader Emily Pitlyk received second place for her story and will receive a hard copy of the anthology, fourth grader Emery Curnutt, fifth grader Daniel Katz and fourth grader Abdu-Allah Rabdi. PEGS students are taught by gifted teachers Allison Bennett and Robin Chang.

A group of 70 students from Willow Brook Elementary School had their artwork selected for the Next Generation Student Art Exhibition at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on the campus of Washington University. The exhibit was on view from Dec. 13 through Dec. 20 in the Steinberg Gallery. The regional showcase highlighted abstract artworks created in response to the museum’s featured exhibition Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection. Holman

Choir students from Holman Middle School were selected to participate in St. Louis Suburban 7th/8th Grade honor choirs. Students were selected by their school’s choir director to participate in an ensemble with students from other schools around the St. Louis area. Students selected to the 7th/8th Grade Mixed Honor Choir were Levi Dukes, Isabella Flores, Dagny Hurlbut, Averie Souza, Cole Wiley and Rebecca Wulf. Students selected to the 7th/8th Grade Treble Honor Choir were Isabella Cottner, Isabella Flores, Micah Hampton, Brooklyn Hester, Nayla Jordan, Cora Leonberger, Emma Pallardy, Stephanie Pastor-Ramirez and Trinity Roberson. The Holman choir is directed by Heather Blackwell.

Emerging Artists

Maple Fowler

Pattonville Heights Middle School eighth grader Maple Fowler had artwork selected for display in the Emerging Artists exhibit at Congregation B’nai Amoona. This exhibit was on view through Jan. 10, and featured drawings, paintings, sculpture and mixed media pieces by Maple as well as three other students from second to eleventh grade at other schools in the St. Louis region.

The Pattonville Heights choir is directed by Kurtis Heinrich.

Scarlett Stinekraus

Pattonville High School sophomore Scarlett Stinekraus had her drawing “Vitality” selected to be in Missouri State University's Juried Exhibition for High School Art and Design Students. Her artwork was created in Drawing 2 last semester. The artwork will be featured in a virtual exhibition on Missouri State’s website starting July 1. Stinekraus was taught by high school art teacher Beth Kathriner.
