Sierra Dertinger is sharing her love of reading with her students and co-workers at Drummond Elementary.

On Friday, she read “Where Oliver Fits” to her third grade class as part of her #ClassroomBookADay project. After reading and having a class discussion, students created a puzzle piece that would be cut out to illustrate they always fit in when they are themselves.

“Sometimes we might just have a discussion afterward, but I wanted to include fun, team-building activities this first week.”

Her classroom library has been growing and growing over the years, and her goal this year is to expand the love of learning throughout Drummond.

She proposed a new initiative with library technology specialist Tammi Buckner to build a stronger reading culture at her school and KidLit & Coffee Book Club will have its first meeting tomorrow morning.

“In order to get our students excited about books and reading, it really starts with the staff,” Dertinger said. “Several staff members have expressed interest in it and I’m looking forward to starting it with everyone.”
