Who can apply?

Everyone! We encourage every household to complete a free/reduced meal application every year. You may qualify and not even know it!

Families who participate in other government programs, such as SNAP, automatically qualify for free/reduced meals. 

You can apply at any time through out the year. If your family has a financial hardship during the year, the application is available for you to complete with your current income situation.

What are the benefits?

• Free/Reduced Price Meals: Students from qualifying households will receive both breakfast and lunch at no charge during the school day.
• Reduced Monthly Internet Services: Lifeline is a federal program that lowers the monthly cost of phone or internet service.

• Internet Assistance from Pattonville Technology: Eligible students will be provided with mobile broadband Internet access for their district-provided device only. Students in grades K-8 may have an LTE-capable iPad and students with laptops can be assigned a hotspot.

MySchoolBucks gives parents the convenience and flexibility of one account to securely pay for all of their student meals and more with a credit card, debit card, or electronic check! With MySchoolbucks you'll be able to view cafeteria purchases, check your student's balance, receive low balance alerts, and pay for school meals anywhere!

Refunds

All balances remaining in meal accounts will be automatically carried over to the following school year. If a student graduates or moves out of the school district, a refund can be requested. A transfer of funds to a sibling remaining in the Pattonville School District can also be requested. Meal account balances cannot be transferred to pay district fines or to another district.

Negative Balances

All Pattonville students have access to healthy meals in our cafes. Students without adequate funds in their account will receive a balanced meal that includes a protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk. The USDA identifies a reimbursable meal when at least 3 of the 5 items offered are selected by the students, with one of them being a fruit or a vegetable. Every student has access to a reimbursable meal at each meal service regardless of the meal account balance. 

A la Carte Items

If a student does not have adequate funds in their meal account, they will be asked to return any a la carte items selected due to insufficient funds. If they refuse to return the item or it is an unwrapped item they will be charged for that item.

Parent Communication

• Tuesdays: Pattonville Food Service will send an email message to all parents/guardians to notify them of their child's account balances.
• Thursdays: Pattonville Food Service will send an email to all parents/guardians of those students who have a negative account balance.  

At the school level, Kitchen Managers will contact parents/guardians via a personal phone call or email once a week for the students whos accounts are in the negative. Elementary schools will send a paper letter home with students about their child's account as well. High school students, on Wednesdays, will receive an email notification if they have a negative balance. Once the negative balance reaches $15.00 or more, the school administrators will be notified to reach out to the parent/guardian. 

NutriSlice Online Menus

Our online menus have the ability to filter for the top 9 food allergens!

     Milk, Egg, Wheat, Soy, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Fish, Shellfish & Sesame

This is possible by clicking on the filters in the upper right corner of the menu on Nutrislice and selecting the allergens to avoid. Once the selections have been made, the menu strikes through the menu items and turns them red if that allergen is present in that item. 

The online menu contains the nutrition information for each menu item!

Click on any menu item and a pop-up box will appear showing the nutrition information for that specific menu item. Great for checking carb counts!

Medical Modifications

In some cases, students need a menu modification to safely meet their nutritional needs. The USDA requires a statement from a physician with specific accommodations to be submitted to the food service and nursing staff in the school where the student attends.

If your child has a food allergy or special dietary needs due to diabetes, celiac disease, etc., have your physician complete the form below and return to the school nurse or food service department for appropriate arrangements to be made.

Overview

Pattonville School District participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs. Our meals are planned to accommodate the average nutritional needs of students based on current USDA regulations and guideline requirements of these programs. Our job is to make sure that we serve healthy, well-balanced meals that students will enjoy eating, and truth be told, we love our job!

Breakfast Requirements

A student must take at least 3 food items to create a reimbursable breakfast.

• Select 1/2 Cup Fruit
• Pick a second serving of fruit or other foods like: Whole Grains, Lean Protein, or a carton of milk.
• Take a minimum of 3 food items

Lunch Requirements

A student must take at least 3 food groups to create a reimbursable lunch.

• Select a 1/2 cup of fruit or vegetable (or both)
• Pick at least two other food groups, Whole Grains, Lean Protein, or a carton of Milk
• Take a minimum of 3 food groups and a maximum of all 5.

A La Carte

All items that do not meet the meal requirements or exceeds the maximum meal requirements is considered a la carte and will be charged separately. Check out our a la carte pricing in the Meal Prices dropdown below. 

Smart Snacks

All a la carte items are sold in the cafeteria are required by USDA to meet the Smart Snack in School nutrition standards. 

What are smart snacks?

Smart Snacks in School requirements were established in the 2014-2015 school year, requiring all foods and beverages sold during the school day and 30 minutes after dismissal to meet specific nutrition standards. 

Smart Snack Standards

To be considered a smart snack and able to be sold in school, the item must meet the following nutritional standards:

1. Be whole grain rich product; or

2. The first ingredient a fruit, vegetable, dairy, or protein food; or

3. A "Combination food" with at least 1/4 cup fruit and/or vegetable; or

4. The food item must meet the nutrient standards for calories, sodium, sugar, and fats.
