Recognition Programs

The Pattonville Teacher of the Year is selected based on service, dedication and communication skills. Based on nominations from the community, each school selects a building-level Teacher of the Year. From those candidates, a committee of their peers selects three finalists and a district-level honoree who is named during District Appreciation Night in May. That teacher will represent the district in the state Teacher of the Year program.

History

In 1984, the Pattonville School District selected its first Teacher of the Year. In 1991 a change was made in the program to honor three Teachers of the Year - one for each level: elementary, middle and high school. In 2018, Pattonville began recognizing building-level honorees who would advance in the district process. Since Pattonville began this program, eight teachers have been finalists in the state competition and two were Missouri Teachers of the Year.

Eligibility

Eligible staff include:

• Classroom teachers, pre-kindergarten through Grade 12
• Counselors, librarians and instructional specialists
• Special School District (SSD) teachers at Pattonville will be eligible for building-wide honors, but cannot advance to the finalist or district levels, due to SSD's separate recognition program.

Ineligible staff include:

• Persons in a supervisory capacity (based on state guidelines)
• Previous winners of the district title
• Building-level winners within the past four years
• Staff members on a Performance Improvement Plan
• Staff on extended leave
• Persons planning on retiring or resigning at the end of the school year in which they are nominated

Eligible staff who are nominated in their first or second year in the district will automatically be put in the running for the Rookie of the Year award. (Visit the Rookie of the Year award page for more information). SSD staff service years are based on service with SSD.

The district Support Staff of the Year is selected based on service, dedication and work ethic. Based on nominations from the community, each school and a district services group selects a building-level Support Staff Employee of the Year. From those candidates, a committee of their peers selects three finalists and a district-level honoree who is named during District Appreciation Night in May.

History

The Support Staff of the Year award was introduced in 1994. In 2018, Pattonville began recognizing building-level honorees who would advance in the district process. 

Eligibility

Eligible staff include:

• All non-supervisory support staff employed by Pattonville. This includes behavior analysts and technicians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, clerks, custodians, diagnosticians, early childhood therapists, mechanics, nurses, parent educators, paraprofessionals, physical therapists, school psychologists, secretaries, social workers, speech/language pathologists and maintenance, printing, technology and warehouse personnel.
• Special School District (SSD) staff at Pattonville will be eligible for building-wide honors, but cannot advance to the finalist or district levels, due to SSD's separate recognition program.

The Rookie of the Year program was introduced in 2021. All eligible teacher and support staff nominees who are in their first or second year in the district are automatically considered for the award. A committee will review the nominations and select one teacher Rookie of the Year and one support Staff Rookie of the Year. Those honorees will be announced in April and recognized at District Appreciation Night in May.

Process

Students, staff, family members and people from the Pattonville community nominate staff for the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year programs. Eligible staff who are in their first or second year in the district will automatically be put in the running for the Rookie of the Year award. Using the submitted nominations, a committee of their peers will select one teacher and one support staff to be named Rookie of the Year. Those honorees will be surprised in April and recognized during District Appreciation Night in May.  

Eligibility

All staff who are eligible for the Teacher and Support Staff of the Year awards and are in their first or second year in the district are eligible for the Rookie of the Year award. Staff who are selected as the Rookie of the Year are not eligible to participate in the rookie program in the future, but can participate in the Teacher and Support Staff of the Year Program in their third and later years if eligible based on all other criteria. SSD staff service years are based on service with SSD. The district's most prestigious honor, the Pride of Pattonville award recognizes up to 10 honorees from the Pattonville community. Honorees can be district staff, volunteers or others who have gone above and beyond for the district. Nominations for Pride of Pattonville open in February and the honorees are announced in April.

Criteria

• Service to the district above and beyond the call of duty
• Years and a variety of types of service
• Support of the district as a whole and participation in its functions
• Excellence in job performance as a staff member or volunteer 

Process

1. Nominations open in February. 
2. A screening committee consisting of Pride of Pattonville award recipients from the previous two years makes the selection from the nominations submitted by staff, students, parents and community members. A maximum of 10 awards is given each year.
3. The committee notifies the recipients of their selection at least one week before the district's annual District Appreciation Night in May, which is when the awards are presented. 

Eligibility

Any current district employee, parent or other friend of Pattonville is eligible to receive a Pride of Pattonville award.
