| Public astronomy nights for 2009-2010 announced |
| Friday, September 11, 2009 |
Pattonville has scheduled its annual list of public astronomy nights for the 2009-2010 school year.
These public stargazing events will take place at the planetarium and observatory located at Pattonville Heights Middle School, 195 Fee Fee Road in Maryland Heights. The programs are free and guided by teachers specializing in astronomy.
Visitors can enjoy viewing the nighttime sky through a new 10-inch Meade telescope installed with funds from a NASA ROSES ORIGIN grant. The first public astronomy nights will be held from 9 to 11 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. Visitors should be able to see the waxing Gibbous moon, Jupiter, Uranus, M39, M15, Ring Nebula, stars and star clusters. For a list of dates for the year and more information on the observatory/planetarium, visit the planetarium Web site at nightsky.psdr3.org. Programs are held twice a month during the school year.
Pattonville Heights has been home to the observatory/planetarium for more than 40 years. The facility is used to provide instruction on space and astronomy to Pattonville students at all levels and to provide an opportunity for community members to observe the nighttime sky through regular public astronomy nights.
