Teacher of the Year

Nomination Form (.pdf) (online) - Deadline 2/1/08

The “Teacher of the Year” program has been designed to closely follow the state and national programs so that Pattonville’s selected teacher is prepared to participate in those competitions.

Eligibility:  Any classroom teacher, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, who intends to be with the district in that capacity for the following school year.  Counselors, librarians and persons in a supervisory capacity are not eligible based on state guidelines.  Previous winners of the district title are not eligible.

Nominations:  Forms are distributed to staff and to parents through the students and made available in the schools.  You can download a pdf version of the form or use the online version to fill it out and submit it electronically. Any student, staff member, parent or patron may nominate a teacher. Each person who has been nominated is notified and asked to provide some information (No more than three pages) for the selection committee.  This information is similar to, but not as extensive as, what the district winner will be required to submit for the state competition.

Criteria:  Nominees are judged based on the written materials in the categories of personal history including work experience, professional development, special accomplishments, community involvement and teaching philosophy. Finalists are interviewed.  The interview represents two-thirds of the final score.

Selection Committee:  The selection committee is co-chaired by the two previous district “Teachers of the Year.”  The committee is primarily parents and teachers, with representation from school and district administrators and the board of education.   There is a subcommittee for each level-elementary, middle and high schools, with all schools at that level represented.  The committee is organized by the chairpersons.

Selection Process:  Each member of the subcommittee is given a copy of the materials from the teachers in the represented grade levels along with the nomination forms for those teachers.  They are asked to read them and complete a rating sheet.  The chairpersons then compile those results and the top three are invited to be interviewed.  The interviews are conducted by the members of that subcommittee.  Following the interviews the subcommittee votes on the “Teacher of the Year” for that level.

The entire selection committee reviews the materials of the three “Teachers of the Year” and participates in those interviews.  This group then makes the decision on which one of the three will represent Pattonville at the state level.

Support Staff Employee of the Year

Nomination Form (.pdf) (online) - Deadline 2/1/08

The “Support Staff Employee of the Year” program was designed to closely follow the process used for the district’s “Teacher of the Year” program.

Eligibility:  All non-supervisory support employees.  This includes nurses, secretaries, clerks, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, mechanics, custodians, print shop technicians, teacher assistants, parent educators and maintenance and warehouse personnel.  Previous winners are not eligible.

Nominations:  Forms are distributed to staff and to parents through the students and made available in the schools.  You can download a pdf version of the form or use the online version to fill it out and submit it electronically. Any student, staff member, parent or patron may nominate someone.  Each person who is nominated is notified and asked to respond, in writing, to a brief set of questions developed to provide the selection committee with additional information.

Criteria: Nominees are judged based on commitment, human relations skills, loyalty, dedication and organizational/work skills related to the overall positive educational climate of Pattonville.  This determination is made through review of the nominees’ written materials, the nomination forms and for the finalist, personal interviews.

Selection Committee:  The selection committee is co-chaired by the two previous winners.  There is an elementary, middle school and high school parent, representatives of various support staff departments, a central office administrator and a member of the board of education.  The chairpersons select members for the committee.

Selection Process:  Each committee member is given copies of the nomination forms and information submitted by the candidates.  The committee members review the materials and complete a scoring sheet.  The results are compiled by the chairpersons.  Five semifinalists are chosen for interviews by the entire committee.  Three are selected for recognition at District Appreciation Night with one selected as the winner.

Nomination Form (.pdf) (online) - Deadline 3/7/08

The “Pride of Pattonville” award was established to recognize excellence of performance, service, character and contributions demonstrated by those who serve Pattonville.

Eligibility:  Any district employee, parent or friend of Pattonville.  A maximum of 10 awards is given each year.

Nominations:  Forms are distributed to staff and to parents through the students and made available in the schools.  You can download a pdf version of the form or use the online version to fill it out and submit it electronically.   Any student, staff member, parent or patron may nominate someone for this honor. Forms will be available in February.

Criteria:  Nominees are selected for variety and years of service to Pattonville, service beyond expectations, support for the total district activities and excellence in performance.

Selection Committee:  The selection committee is comprised of the winners from the two previous years. Chairpersons are elected by the committee.

Selection Process:  Committee members review and rank the nominees based on the information provided on the nomination forms.  A numeral ranking is determined with points for each of the four categories on the nomination form.  Each committee member then lists his/her top 10 candidates.  After everyone has the opportunity to review the nominations the entire committee meets to compile the list of winners from the individual lists using a numerical system.
