Pattonville Seeking Senior Adult Volunteers to Help Boost Reading and Language Skills

The Pattonville School District is currently seeking senior adults to volunteer for its intergenerational tutoring program. All Pattonville elementary schools participate in this program which matches trained volunteers with students in kindergarten through third grade. Each volunteer spends about 40 minutes once a week working one-on-one with a child on reading and language skills.
Love of children and reading, along with time, are the only qualifications. A 12 hour required training is provided along with continual support and assistance. All materials are provided. The intergenerational tutoring program was developed by OASIS and is financed by corporate donations.
Each year there are more students who would benefit than volunteers. This year’s training will be September 19 and 20. Those interested in more information or in participating should call Miriam Kerns at 213-8025.
