Pattonville High School students to host Child Safety Fair

Students in the child development and parenting classes at Pattonville High School will host a Child Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at the high school.

This free fair will focus on child safety issues related the home, cars, bikes, fire and strangers. The Pattonville Fire Department will provide child seat safety checks, but participants must call 213-8051, ext. 8508 to make an appointment.

“It’s estimated that 80 percent of child car seats are installed improperly,” said Susan Saputo, a family and consumer science teacher who is helping organize the event.

Children may also participate in a “Bike Rodeo” after a bike and helmet inspection. A limited number of bike helmets will be available at no charge. Others may be purchased for $7.

During the event, children can also enjoy “Flashy Robotic Dog,” a fire truck, ladder truck, an ambulance and many other activities. The community service unit of the Maryland Heights Police Department is also assisting in the event.
