Longtime Pattonville board member earns highest
certification
Longtime Pattonville School District Board of Education Director Bob Drummond
was one of 19 in the state of Missouri to earn the Missouri School Board
Associations highest certification for a school board member.
Drummond, who is serving his 30th year on the Pattonville school board,
earned the distinction of Master Certified Board Member. All Missouri
school board members are required by state law to earn Essential Board
Member Certification by taking 16 hours of training in topics such as
Foundations of School Leadership, Policy and Board Governance, Board Planning
and Board Relationships. Board members can achieve two higher levels of
certification beyond whats required - Advanced Board Member Certification
and Master Board Member Certification.
Those earning master certification must accumulate at least 40 hours of
continuing education credits, read four books and attend two core meetings
within the year the master board member level is accomplished. The board
member must also complete an elective, such as writing a critique of a
new resource book or submitting an article related to effective boardsmanship.
Drummond was also recently honored with the 2001 Community Service Award
sponsored by Commerce Bank, which included a $7,500 award to be given
to the honorees charity of choice. Drummond chose to contribute
his award to the Pattonville Education Foundation.
In addition to holding every office on the Pattonville Board of Education,
Drummond has served as president of the Missouri School Boards Association
and continues to work with that organization. He has also served in leadership
positions in area-wide program such as Characterplus, the Council
for Educational Advancement and Springboard for Learning. In addition,
he has been Pattonvilles representative on the Special School Districts
governing council since its inception in 1996, serving two terms as chairman.
Drummond is retired from a 48-year career in the printing and publishing
industry. He is a native of St. Louis and the father of two Pattonville
graduates. He graduated from Beaumont High School and Washington University.
