Pattonville teachers participate in internship at Boeing

Two educators from Pattonville High School recently got an inside look at how a major corporation operates when they participated in the Summer Teacher Internship Program (STIP) at Boeing in St. Louis.

John Hopkins, an industrial technology teacher, and Julie Kampschroeder, post-secondary counselor, each spent three weeks touring various parts of the Boeing Company and listening to presentations designed to help them learn information they can share with their students about surviving in the “real” world of work. Hopkins and Kampschroeder enjoyed demonstrations on topics such as virtual reality, computer modeling, computer-aided design and manufacturing training.

“I feel better able to give my students some idea as to what to expect when they graduate,” said Hopkins.

Kampschroeder said she learned what employers are looking for when hiring new employees.

“As teacher interns we learned that communication and teamwork are THE most important characteristics in a new hire,” she said. “I would like to arm PHS graduates with these skills before they leave our campus.”
