Three candidates up for election to Pattonville school board

Pattonville voters will elect two board members for three-year terms during the April 3 school board election. The following candidates have filed to run for Pattonville's Board of Education. They are listed below in the order they will appear on the election ballot.

Michael Bailey
A 30-year resident of Pattonville, Bailey is an assistant division manager for Physicians Mutual. He earned an associate’s degree from American College in Massachusetts and attended St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. A resident of Bridgeton, Bailey and his wife, Mary, are the parents of three Pattonville graduates.
Leadership/Volunteerism Background: Three years in the U.S. Army; more than 40 years in management/sales; 27 years in Kiwanis, including roles as lieutenant governor, distinguished president, inter-club chairman and international committee chairman.
Statement of Purpose: “To continue to serve the district in ‘excellence board’ participation and to bring ‘fresh’ perspectives by representing the Pattonville family.”

Jeanne Schottmueller (Incumbent)
A 16-year resident of Pattonville, Schottmueller works as a paraprofessional for the Special School District. She is a resident of Bridgeton and the mother of two seniors at Pattonville High School.
Leadership/Volunteerism Background: President of PTO at Drummond Elementary and PTA at Holman Middle School; also served on the School Improvement Teams at Drummond, Holman and Pattonville High School; vice president of the Football Boosters; service on many district committees; and current vice president of the Pattonville Board of Education.
Statement of Purpose: “I believe in the vision and goals of the school district and will continue to hold the district accountable for results. It is important to me to make sure our children are receiving everything possible to become contributing citizens not only in our community, but the world around us.”
Ralph Stahlhut (Incumbent)
A 48-year resident of Pattonville, Stahlhut is employed by OfficeMax. He is a graduate of Beaumont High School and attended Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. Stahlhut and his wife, Carole, are the parents of two Pattonville graduates and have seven grandchildren, including one Holman Middle School student and one Pattonville High School student. Stahlhut resides in Maryland Heights.
Leadership/Volunteerism Background: 22-year member of the Pattonville Board of Education, having held the offices of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer; also served on many committees in the school district; current treasurer of the board.
Statement of Purpose: “Pattonville is entering a very important period. My experience on the board will be valuable as we continue to maintain low class sizes, increase student achievement, attendance and test scores, and maintain a safe environment for our students and staff, with decreased state and local funding. ”
